Farewell and Welcome...

We had a pot-luck session earlier this month. It was a farewell dinner for Dy and Raffy who were both moving on. Dy had served at Trybe for 5 years – he was first discovered when he volunteered at a camp hosted by Thumbs Up! at that time.

After volunteering with us since 2001, Raffy joined the Trybe team in 2006, following our Trybe Thailand project. Many have been blessed by them during their term at Trybe. On behalf on the staff team, I wish them the best as they venture into new areas of work and life!

I would also like invite our community to join me in welcoming Dexter to our staff team! Dexter brings with him a wealth of experience in mentoring young people. I encourage you to speak with him to find out more about his life journey. I am sure that we will all find him an inspiration at Trybe!

Junyuan's Funfair - Junyuan Reaches Out to You

20090905 - Junyuan Funfair

On 5th September 2009, Tampines West Community Centre was transformed into a Carnival Land by the students of Junyuan Secondary School. As part of the school effort in reaching out and caring for the less fortunate in the community, the school came up with the idea of running a funfair with all proceeds donated to the Community Chest. The project were spearheaded by the secondary 3 students and they came up with many innovative game and product stalls, to name a few, stalls like "Guppies fishing", "Blow Me", used books sales as well as selling of balloons sculptures.

The training started in early April, where the students were taught the concept Service Learning and Project Management skills. Applying the what they have learnt, the students planned, prepared and executed the funfair with the assistance from their respective teachers' in charge and Trybe's facilitators.

The funfair attracted much buzz and hype in the community centre with many students, parents and friends turning up to support the event. The school managed to raise $4062.60 within 3 hours. Kudos to Junyuan Secondary School. You have truly made a difference to the community!
