Growing up with Trybe

Looking really smart there!

One of our long time youth volunteers, Bing Rong, has joined the army! During Trybe’s birthday celebration on 31 July, we had some pseudo-army initiation rites for him to get a taste of the soon-to-come army life. Soon after on 2 August, Bing Rong was enlisted to Pulau Tekong – to join hundreds others there, as recruits in the armed forces.

Today, prior to heading back to Tekong, Bing Rong gave us a surprise by stopping by at Trybe Centre and had lunch with some of us.

It's great to see him grow up - serving youths in Trybe and now, serving the nation! All of us at Trybe are very proud of him and we wish to see him soon again at our programmes! He’s going out-field this coming week and we wish him all the best!!

Our very own YOG Torchbearer!

10 August 2010 will always remain a special day to me. Thanks to Trybe, I was one of the privileged 2400 people in Singapore who was given the opportunity to be a YOG (Youth Olympic Games) Torchbearer!

The once-in-a-lifetime experience began at 1.30pm when I went to my reporting venue at Meridian Junior College. The celebrative atmosphere was infectious, as everyone around me, young and old, were beaming with such pride and excitement about the Torch Relay. That kind of got me hyped up as well!

Next, we were ushered up the YOG buses. The sight of police vehicles, media truck, 2 open top YOG buses of supporters and our YOG buses forming a 600m long convoy was amazing. We had so many residents who lined the streets just to catch sight of the Torch Relay and cheer us on! It was really awesome and way beyond my expectations of how Singaporeans would be so supportive of YOG!

After touring around and following the Torch for 2 hours, my special moment finally arrived! Short as it may be, it will be unforgettable – the cheers of people all around, the clicking cameras, the honour of being entrusted with the Torch and the spirit of excitement in the air… What made it even more special for me was the extra effort that the Trybe community and friends made to be there to share the wonderful moment with me.

It was indeed a blessing to be involved! And I have full confidence that Singapore would do an excellent job as the host of this first ever YOG which we all can be so honored to be a part of. Let’s cheer our Team Singapore on!
