It was a fruitful year for Trybe last year. To date we have reached more than 86,000 youths in Singapore!
We could not end last year without throwing a really special appreciation for our Trybe volunteers who make it possible for Trybe to do increasingly more. We invited the volunteers to a neat gathering and dinner at the flavourful Arts House along Old Parliament Road. It was great to see many of them dressed up really nicely for the event!
A special moment during the event was the "Special Awards" Ceremony to appreciate volunteers who had shown exceptional commitment and heart of serving in the past year with Trybe. They were:
Bingrong
Mr Committed
Always trying his best to make himself available for sessions, Bing Rong is ever ready to take up leading roles in our programmes. We were really happy to have him go with us to Sarawak in Trybe’s first ever overseas service-learning trip in 2009. He is committed to the cause and he is committed to seeing the youth under his charge succeed!
Hanafy
Mr Earnest

Though he appears quiet, Hanafy is full of depth as he secretly ponders the issue of mentoring. He is always sending us write-ups about mentoring, and we have invited him to join us for a short term prior to his entry into NUS. We are looking forward to seeing his contributions and tapping on his brain juices in this 6 months.
Jeremy Goh
Mr Publicity
Jeremy is the epitome epicurean technologist. He has his own podcast; is keenly involved in blogging and has helped Trybe publicise the many programmes and activities that we do, or have done. We are grateful to his avid photo taking and his posts.
Vege
Mr Supportive

Vege, or Cai De Xian, is a volunteer who has come a long way. From the days of being a student at Yuan Ching Secondary, he is now a capable lead volunteer, supporting the team in all that we do. We are grateful that he could join us for the service-learning trip to Sarawak. We are looking forward to see more of him in Trybe’s programmes in 2010!
Zi Ming
Mr Smiley

Quiet on the outside, but full of exuberant joy on the inside, that’s Zi Ming. He is one who always puts on a smile all the time. Personable and extremely smart, he is one whom many youngsters come to for advice and guidance. We look forward to having him serve the youth community more in 2010 and beyond.
Thiru
Mr Charisma
Pilot-to-be, Thiru never fails to charm everyone, male or female, young and old. Thiru charmed everyone in his Army uniform once when he came to Trybe in it, and he continues to command that charisma now as a Trybe volunteer. Fun-loving and easy to talk to, the youth are immensely drawn to him to hear about his stories and his career history! Amazing young man!
Rizal
Mr Enthusiastic
Rizal is one who echoes the phrase “never say die”. When serving his term at national service, he would come to help us whenever he had a day off. He still comes to help us now and he is training to be a teacher at NIE. We are so honoured to have him with us as he mentors two boys from our mentoring programme. He will make a steady impact in the lives of our nation’s youth!
Min Min
Miss Enthusiastic

Ever ready to dance, to cheer, to sing, we call her Miss Enthusiastic! Boundless energy (and that’s a sign of youth) she is always keen to help out at Trybe events, whether in leadership or in supporting roles. She is someone whom people will easily talk and open up to.
Vivien
Miss Sincere

Vivien is one lady whose sincerity struck us one of the first few times she joined our programmes. When she learnt about the plight of some of the underprivileged, she was in tears and she felt strongly that something had to be done for them. Today, she is still the same, sincere about the efforts that she puts into a programme – that it must be done well and it must be impactful. We applaud her for her sincerity and her perseverance to continue serving the youth.
Leovine
Mr Faithful
Leovine is someone who makes intentional and consistent efforts to serve, give and learn. We see this in his involvements in Trybe programmes, Podz Mentoring, his academic research, campus activities, etc., and even as a friend. Leovine, we appreciate you for your sincerity and faithfulness in Trybe for the past years! You are a gem.
Wei Hao
Mr Transformer

Almost everyone who hears Wei Hao's story is amazed by the intense challenges and struggles he faced in his life, and most importantly, how he overcame. We appreciate Wei Hao a lot for his willingness to share his life - in this way, he models for many younger ones, and his story becomes a starting point of transformation for certain youths. Thank you Wei Hao; Trybe believes in you and knows that you will shine more and more!
Alfred
Mr Cheerleader

Alfred's loud voice was not given to him for nothing. When he cheers a cohort on, he shakes up the building! We believe that his heart is big, and we have seen that for the youths and his friends. Rock on, Alfred!
Praise Mok
The Brain
After transiting from a staff to a volunteer at Trybe, Praise was still frequently seen at the centre - she would be either racking her brains for programme development or offering the ways to deal with situations and people in the wisest ways. Often we are truly amazed at how smart she is! Now a mother of four, she is most busy thinking of how to handle four different children on her back. Nonetheless we want to appreciate Praise for creating many 'brain-children' for Trybe in the past years.
Bingyu
Mr Steadfast
We know how it feels to be in love - your mind constantly thinks of that someone or something, and it is just so hard to get it off our minds. This is a love story between Bingyu and Trybe. When he was doing his Architecture studies in Australia, he had Trybe so much on his mind that he designed a 3-million-dollar Trybe Centre for his final thesis project. After he graduated (with flying colours) and returned, he presented his project to us and hearing his design concepts, he really articulated each space according to the activities that are crucial to the daily Trybe office life, as well as programme needs. Bravo Bingyu! Thank you for your steadfast commitment to Trybe!
Dalston
Mr Thankful
Many of you may not know, but Dalston was one of the youngest and first few lead facilitators that we groomed some years back. Here is an outstanding chap who is keen to learn and grow. Though he was in the army in the recent years and was less active with us, he came back telling us he wants to give back to and through Trybe what he had received. We are excited to see you go far, Dalston!
At the end of the event, the guests were brought to a surprise rise on the Singapore Flyer!

The picture above contains some of our honourable Trybe Podz Mentors whom we are really grateful for too. They have given much to the institutionalised students.
Volunteers, each of you are unique individuals who have given to Trybe and the youths in many ways.
Thank you!Labels: Volunteer Appreciation, Volunteers
