The Pursuit

I watched "The Pursuit of Happyness" over 3 weeks ago, walking into the theatre anticipating inspiration and witnessing a man trying to overcome great obstacles. To my surprise, I really didn't enjoy sitting through it. The lead character, Will Smith, had to go through so many trials and negative experiences; in fact, the movie felt like they were not made to be successful. Without giving away the ending, it just wasn't a 'feel good' movie... only until the very end. Recently I decided to think about why I didn't enjoy the movie, and it suddenly dawned on me: the very title is "The PURSUIT of Happyness". This movie ISN'T about happiness; it's about one's JOURNEY to achieve happiness. In life, I realize, we're all sometimes like me, a mere spectator, who gets disappointed on a negative life journey. I might have a bad day, break a leg, lose my job, I lose a best friend, accidents may happen, etc. These things can dwindle my spirit and keep me from fighting onward. But the beauty of the movie showcases the perserverence, dedication and resilience Will Smith's character shines to show, from the beginning, til the very end, where he finally achieves something very special. Do you have these qualities? For me, I believe this 'pursuit' is one of the greatest races we all have to run in life. So if you ask me today if I enjoyed the movie, I'll emphatically say 'Yes'. ... ... ... But I still wish the kid got his toy back. I know I know... just go see the movie.
