Lead Facilitator’s Training 2008, 22nd-23rd Feb

Close Up
The Trybe Centre was the venue for the first Lead Facilitator’s training of 2008. Held over a period of 2 days, the workshop took a group of prominent volunteers and threw them into a vat of “Leadership Potion” to concoct an ideal batch of Lead Facilitators for Trybe’s flagship program, “You Can Do It!”

Stirring the potion were our very own Rachel Ong, Nic Lee, Raffy Panes and of course, newly-wed Deputy General Manager of Trybe, Jaime Lee. The first day outlined the very core of Trybe, with regards to our vision, our mission, and the history of the organization from its days as Thumbs Up.

The second day opened up the youthful and fun-loving bunch of volunteers to the techniques used in conducting the “You Can Do It!” program, covering everything from the AAA concept, to the history of DiSC, to Profile Interpretation, Classroom Management and Transactional Analysis. Who could forget Nic’s adorable impression of a High-S 9-year-old girl?

Personally, the most important lesson I learnt from this workshop is how to help people by helping them help themselves, and not letting them be dependent on others to the extent that they feel needy and inadequate. Too much of a good thing is bad. Like Kai said in the sharing session at the end: “We need to stop giving them fish and start teaching them to fish. If not, they will not want to learn anymore.” It is indeed a very important message to take note of, especially for those of you who are reading this and love to reach out and help the ones around you.

All of us, as participants, left with new Trybe shirts, laminated “certificates”, as well as the pride of being the new batch of Lead Facilitators for 2008. We’ll see you in school soon, yea? Keep a lookout!!!!
